Stegodyphus Care
These spiderlings are quite small right now, but they are very hardy and grow at a good rate. You can keep your Stegodyphus in the habitat it is shipped in for a few molts.
Stegodyphus lineatus and Stegodyphus dufouri are 2 species of velvet spider from the Middle East and North Africa. S.lineatus can reach a legspan of 1” and S.dufouri around 1-1/2” legspan.
Like most Stegodyphus, they are arboreal. Stegodyphus will build large sticky webs in bushes and trees and construct a tough silk retreat to hide in.They are not the greatest hunters so they rely on prey being caught up in their sticky webbing for food.
Feeding: For these tiny babies it is best to put pre-killed roach or cricket pieces directly in their webbing.
Contrary to what you may see on the internet, S.lineatus and S. dufouri are not communal or social species. They will do well in groups as small spiderlings and juveniles. but subadults and adults will eat each other.
Keep dry like Eresus. An extremely light misting is ok occasionally. Make sure containers do not build up moisture.
Arboreal setups work best for subadults and adults.
