Psalmopoeus irminia (Venezuelan Sun Tiger Tarantula)
The Psalmopoeus irminia, commonly known as the Venezuelan Sun Tiger, is one of the most striking arboreal tarantulas available in the hobby. Known for its bold orange markings against a dark velvet body, this species is both beautiful and fast-moving, making it a favorite among experienced keepers.
Native to the forests of Venezuela, P. irminia is an arboreal species that prefers vertical enclosures with plenty of cork bark and webbing anchor points. Like other members of the Psalmopoeus genus, it creates elaborate web tunnels where it spends most of its time.
This species can reach a leg span of 4.5–5 inches as an adult. While not typically aggressive, the Venezuelan Sun Tiger is known for being quick and defensive.
In captivity, Psalmopoeus irminia thrives with moderate humidity, good ventilation, and a warm environment. When properly cared for, they display incredible web structures and are fascinating to observe as they ambush prey from within their webbed retreats.
Because of its dramatic coloration, active nature, and impressive webbing behavior, the Venezuelan Sun Tiger remains one of the most sought-after arboreal tarantulas in the hobby.
