Phormictopus sp. "Bayahibe" (Neon Pink Birdeater Tarantula)

Species Description

The Phormictopus sp. "Bayahibe", commonly known as the Neon Pink Birdeater Tarantula, is a striking Caribbean species admired for its vibrant coloration and impressive size. Native to the Dominican Republic, this tarantula is named after the coastal region of Bayahibe where the species originates.

As juveniles and adults mature, the Neon Pink Birdeater develops bright pink setae along the legs and carapace, creating a dramatic contrast against its darker body. Under proper lighting these pink highlights can appear almost neon, making this species especially popular among collectors.

Like many members of the Phormictopus genus, this tarantula is a large, terrestrial species capable of reaching a leg span of 7 inches as an adult. They tend to be enthusiastic feeders and grow relatively quickly compared to many other large tarantulas.

In captivity,Β Phormictopus sp. "Bayahibe" thrives in a terrestrial enclosure with adequate substrate for burrowing and moderate humidity. Keepers often enjoy this species for its bold feeding response, impressive size, and vivid coloration, making it a standout tarantula in any collection.
