New World. Burrower

Size: 3.5-4” leg span
Growth Rate: Slow
Natural Habitat: Desert areas of the southwest states. They live in silk lined burrows.
Housing Needs: Terrestrial setup with a hide or burrow. Humidity needs are low. They enjoy a starter burrow or a hide, with at least 5" of substrate. We notice some of our adults enjoy perching on their enclosure decor.
Temperament: Usually calm and docile, but this varies between individuals.

About: As with other tarantulas in this genus, chalcodes are commonly found in southwestern states, especially Arizona, California, and New Mexico. This very handsome species is normally docile and not aggressive. This is a good choice for a display tarantula because they tend to stay out in the open and are not usually startled easily. It is interesting to note that individual specimens of this species vary greatly in their temperament. One may be very calm and docile, and another have a completely different disposition. Generally though, calm and docile seems to be the dominate temperament displayed. They are certainly very easy to care for and quite hardy.
